Residents of Debre Berhan speak about injustices
ESAT News July 17, 2013
Residents of Debre Berhan, Northern Shewa Zone have spoken out about the injustices that they have been facing to officials.
The Amhara Regional Administration has recently organized an attitude collection event, “we get beaten in public, we get detained, and we cannot live peacefully in our own Country” the residents said. They also stated that many people are fleeing the country due to the continuous abuses they have been going through.
One of the complainers said nepotism is rife and job promotions are given based on kinships and relationships and often measures are taken against those that speak against the practice.
Another speaker metaphorically said “officials given power through nepotism and a timber attached with a 15 inch nail are not easy to remove or detach. Bad doers are promoted while those who do well are either demoted or fired.”
He also said that those who evaluate officials are later on punished.
ESAT had presented the audio records of similar meetings held in Injibara, and Wodia towns where in both meetings the attendants expressed their frustrations at the Administrations. They said the officials of the current government think through their muscles.
