Diamond League - Paris: MPM for Tirunesh Dibaba of 5000
m (14:23.68)
PARIS, July 6, 2013 (AFP) - Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba
has achieved the best world performance (MPM) of the year 5000 m in 14 min 23
sec 68/100e, improving the previous mark of her compatriot Meseret Defar
(14:26.90), Saturday at a meeting of Areva Paris, 9th stage of the diamond
League athletics.
The triple Olympic champion, who had achieved the
double including 5000/10.000 m at the Beijing Olympics-2008, is also the world
record holder over the distance (14:11.15). Dibaba, probably the biggest
half-country skier in history, became at the same stage of France's youngest
world champion in athletics, titled on 5000 m to less than 18. Tempted by the
marathon, to complete his parable, the champion Bekoji had to delay the passage
because of foot problems caused by increased distances in training. "It
was my last race before the World Championships where I will double 5/10.000 m.
And next year I will go to the marathon," said the winner dressed in
black. In Paris, where the first five have played a championship Ethiopia for
selection for the World Championships in Moscow (August 10-18), Dibaba, 27,
established the seventh performance of all time to beat his young compatriot
Almaz Ayana (14:25.84).
