Women being raped by soldiers near Bure Front
ESAT News August 22, 2013
The number of Afar ethnic women being raped by the members of the Ethiopian Defense Forces that are stationed in the Ethiopia-Eritrea border, Bure Front, North Eastern Ethiopia, is increasing, ESAT has learnt.
The members of the Force rape shepherd women they find as they go out on a reconnaissance mission. Halima Ahmed Ysuf, aged between 45 to 50 years, has been found dead after she was raped a day earlier by the soldiers near Andaba. The soldiers have also taken 20 of the goats that she was shepherding. These acts of the soldiers explain the continued attacks on the Afar people in the hands of government securities, according to the residents of the area.
ESAT’s efforts to speak with the officials of the Bure Front were unsuccessful.
