የቀድሞ ጠቅላይ ሚኒስተር ባለቤት ወ/ሮ አዜብ መስፍን ወደ ዩናይትድ ስቴት ቨርጂኒያ ሃገር ለቀው ሊወጡ ነው። 

ወ/ሮ አዜብ ኦክቶበር 2/2013 የህውሃት ፖሊት ቢሮን ለመልቀቅ ማመልከቻ ባስገቡት በትግሪኛ በተፃፈ ደብዳቤ 

ላይ ባለፈው ነሃሴ ወር የድርጅቱ አመራር የባለቤታቸውን ሞት ካረዳቸው በኋላ ባደረባቸው የጠና ሃዘንና በራሳቸው 

የስኳር በሽታ ህመም (Diabetic Neuropathy) ምክንያት ስራቸውን መወጣት ባለመቻላቸው መሆኑ 

ተገልፆዋል። አቶ መለስ ከመሞታቸው በፊት አቅደውት የነበረውን የመለስ ፋውንዴሽንን በውጪ ሃገራት 

ለማስፋፋት ቀድሞ ለወ/ሮ አዜብ ከ3 ዓመት ተኩል በፊት ቨርጂኒያ ውስጥ ለባለቤታቸው የገዙት የግል መኖሪያ 

ቤት እንዳለም ለህዋሃት ፖሊት ቢሮ አሳውቀዋል። አቶ አባይ ፀሃዬ ወ/ሮ አዜብ መስፍን ከሃገር እንዳይወጡ 

ለማሳመን የሞከሩት ጥረት ሳይሳካ ቀርቷል።


ለጊዜው ከወ/ሮ አዜብ መስፍን ጋር ለብቻ ተገለው ያሉት አቶ በረከት ስምኦን በኤፈርት አሰራር ላይ በነበሩ ችግሮች 

በሙስና ጉዳይ መከሰሳቸው አይቀሬ መሆኑን አሳምነዋቸው ከሃገር እንዲወጡ ሳይመክሩ እንዳልቀሩ ምንጮቹ 

ተናግረዋል። በአሁኑ ወቅት ህዋሃት ለሶስት የተከፈለ ሲሆን:-

አንደኛው በወ/ሮ አዜብና በአቶ በረከት የሚመራው ቡድን፣

ሁለተኛው በአቶ ስብሃት ነጋ የሚመራው ቡድን ሲሆን

ሶስተኛውና ለጊዜው ጠንከር ያለ ቦታ የያዘው በምክትል ጠ/ሚኒስተር ደብረፅዮንና ገብረ ሚካኤል በውጭ ጉዳይ 

ሚኒስቴር ዶ/ር ቴዎድሮስ አድናሆም የሚመራው ክንፍ ሲሆን የኤርትራ አፍቃሪ ተብለው የሚጠሩት የአቶ በረከትና 

የአቶ ስብሃት ቡድን ከጊዜ ወደ እየተዳከሙ መምጣታቸው ይታወቃል። አቶ በረከት ከሚኒስቴር ደረጃ ስልጣን 

ወርደው አማካሪ መሆናቸው በተፈጠረው ክፍፍል ውስጥ የተዳከመ ቦታ እንደያዙ ያመላክታል።

The widow of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi feels increasingly sidelined 

in Ethiopia’s ruling coalition and is mulling a move to the United States.


The political faction within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF – core 

member of the ruling EPRDF coalition) that the late Prime Minister Meles 

Zenawi’s widow Azeb Mesfin belongs to, is losing its influence. According to our 

sources, the former first lady has submitted her resignation to the TPLF’s 

political bureau on 2 October 2013, asking to be relieved of her functions 

because she is still grieving over her husband’s death in August last year, as 

well as suffering her own diabetic neuropathy, (impact of diabetes on the 

nervous system). Azeb Mesfin has informed the TPLF’s political bureau that she 

would like to live in the United States, in Washington or Virginia, where she 

owns homes that her husband bought, to develop the Meles Zenawi Foundation 

internationally. TPLF leaders including Abay Tsehaye have tried but failed to 

persuade her to change her mind. But her decision is partly influenced by the 

waning influence of her faction within the TPLF, in which she is allied with 

Bereket Simon, and the way she has been sidelined in the consortium EFFORT. 

Given the TPLF’s usual internal politicking, Mesfin might have reason to fear 

that one day she could be blacklisted for corruption.


Right now the TPLF consists of at least three rival factions. Mesfin and Simon’s 

group has lost some of its clout in recent months, indeed Simon’s demotion 

from minister to advisor to Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn is a sign of 

this decline. Another current in the party is led by the old leader of the TPLF, 

Sebhat Nega, which has been trying to gain control of the party but has not 

really managed to. Lastly, the dominant faction is currently an alliance led by 

the deputy prime minister Debretsion Gebremichael, and the foreign minister 

Tewodros Adhanom.
