The Anti-Terrorism and Extremism Training Angered Students

The Anti-Terrorism and Extremism Training Angered Students

The Anti-Terrorism and Extremism Training Angered Preparatory Students.
It was on Thursday that in some of the Addis Ababa’s Preparatory schools a half day description aired through the school network Plasma TV on the issues of combating extremism and terrorism. But at the end of the description when the students were asked to express their point on the issue they began expressing their angered responses.
The students’ response mainly focuses on issues like: why does the government makes schools a political ground?  The government shouldn’t meddle into the internal affairs of religions and religions should be left to their respective leaders.
Besides to this, the students have also complained about the school learning time’s being spent for such things. They have also asked the relevance giving such kind of lessons for them.
Some students even have asked about some tendencie

The reality is that the mafia type ruling clique is robbing the country

I think economic progress seems to be achievable without worrying for democracy as we have seen in China. But may not be the same for all countries. The position of the ruling party in Ethiopia is crystal clear that they don't want democracy. Dictatorship and the spirit of communism is still alive and still within their blood. Where there is no rule of law, there are always some risks. Is the economy going to be sustainable? The country is being engulfed with corruption just last year alone $11 billion moved out of the country. Most of the economic sectors are controlled by the government and foreign investors are restricted from investing in such as finance. There is a limited capital flow except the Chinese loans some western aid. Small and medium sized ebusinesses are struggling to get access to credit. The higher inflation rate is exacerbated again also the growing Islamic extremism is putting the country at risk. Abyssinia is still under trouble. The ruling party must believe in democracy. It is safe to gamble with democracy.

Eskinder Nega is present-day Mandela. He is magnanimous enough to even mention about the economic ‘improvements’ in his article; the reality is far from what the Ethiopian ruling clique and its army of ethnic cadre deployed in the west for propaganda purposes try to make out. The economic growth figure is deceptive for a number of reasons. Most important of these include: (a) the massaging of the figures by the statistical agency of the ruling clique. WB/IMF cut the growth rate figure consistently by 50% or so. What is important to bear in mind is that even the WB/IMF figures are based on the erroneous base figures the corrupt statistical agency churns out and (b) whatever little ‘boom’ there is comes from investment in public projects, with very little or no change in productivity. The public and infrastructure projects are vital for the long-term; but they cannot translate into lasting transformation. So, whatever ‘boom’ there is in Addis and other major urban centres is likely to be fragile.
The reality is that the mafia type ruling clique is robbing the country, syphoning huge sums away from the country (here is a credible account on this from the Global Financial Integrity http://www.gfintegrity.org/content/view/482/70/ ). Another recent report by the Economist (http://www.economist.com/news/middle-east-and-africa/21584037-government-expands-mobile-phone-network-tightens-its-grip-out-reach ) notes how the ruling clique is putting Ethiopia even in a worse position than even stateless countries such as Somalia. Here is also a further recent account of how the ruling clique has promoted corruption – its primary weapon – to be a synonym with the country (http://www.transparency.org/country#ETH ), which had for long been regarded as corruption free. Overall, whatever economic/social progress achieved in Ethiopia is despite the minority ruling clique; not because of it. Go to Any African country and you see rapid and real (not fake as in Ethiopia) transformation. This is the result of rapidly growing appetite for African resources by China and other emerging economies and favourable terms of trade. In Ethiopia’s case, as Mr. Nega notes, international aid has also played huge role. The country is highly dependent on aid, which finances the expansion in health and education services; and without it there is very little to talk about in Ethiopia. Mr. Nega’s call for democracy is one the ruling clique should heed sooner rather than later. If it does not, it risks a major upheaval sooner or later; and the minority Tigrayans are in line to lose the most when, not if, that happens if the current trend of oppression, embezzlement, ethnic nepotism, etc continue.

Ethiopia : Arrest Of Journalists Highlights Continued Crackdown On Independent Media In Ethiopia

Ethiopia : Arrest Of Journalists Highlights Continued Crackdown On Independent Media In Ethiopia

While the Human Rights Council (HRCO) welcomes the release of journalists Million Degnew and Getachew Worku, HRCO remains deeply concerned about the arbitrary nature of their arrest and the continuing clampdown on freedom of the press in Ethiopia.
Two editors of the leading independent Amharic weekly Ethio-Mihdar, Million Degnew and Getachew Worku, were released on bail on 6 November 2013 after having been arrested and detained without charges for several days. The arrest occurred after the newspaper published an article in October about corruption in the town administration
of Legetafo, 21 kilometers northeast of capital Addis Ababa.
Such continued judicial harassment leveled against independent journalists from Ethio-Mihdar is emblematic of the government’s absolute intolerance for independent dissent. The arrests severely undermine Ethiopia’s constitutional and international obligations to protect and promote the rights to freedom of expression”, said HRCO’s Chairman, Isaac Gebremariam.
According to the journalists, on 2 November, police officers arrested Million Degnew, the general manager of the newspaper as well as the paper’s secretary Muna Amedi at their office in Addis Ababa. The arrests were carried out without a Court warrant or police summons. They were brought to the police station in Menen, northeast of Addis Ababa, where Muna Amedi was released half an hour later. Getachew Worku, who was absent from the office at the time of the arrest, was summoned by phone to go to the police station. Worku refused to comply and went by himself to the police station on Monday 4. November.
Million Degnew was held in custody for 4 days without being presented to a judge although the Federal Constitution of Ethiopia guarantees arrested persons the right to be brought to Court within 48 hours of their arrest.
On Tuesday, the two journalists were taken to a room of the police station where a judge and prosecutor addressed them in Oromia language although they are Amharic speakers. They were told that their trial would be in another 4 days. However, the next day, the two men were brought before a regular Court. The judge granted them a release on bail despite the fact that the journalists had not petitioned for bail. The highly unconventional procedures related above are further indications of the violations of their fundamental due process rights.
According to the journalists, this incident is not the first time that the authorities have harassed Ethio-Mihdar for its independent reporting. Degnew and Worku are facing charges of civil defamation by the public University of Hawassa over an article alleging corruption in the university’s administration. In May 2013, another editor of the newspaper, Muluken was detained for 10 days while reporting on evictions of farmers from their land in northwest Ethiopia. He was later released without charge.
Since 2011, 12 journalists have been convicted under provisions of the country’s 2009 Anti-terrorism law. Ethiopia is on the verge of joining a distinct group of countries with no independent media ”, said Isaac Gebremariam.
HRCO urges the government of Ethiopia to immediately and unconditionally release all detained journalists and refrain from further unwarranted restriction on the right to freedom of expression.

How to destroy Woyanne

How to destroy Woyanne

Elias Kifle | November 21st, 2013
Currently Ethiopians are the most pitied, humiliated, abused and disgraced people in the world. The source of all these ills is Woyanne, and we are the enablers. Why are the tens of thousands of Ethiopians who live in Saudi Arabia being abused, tortured, raped and killed? It is because Woyanne made Ethiopia a hell on earth for most Ethiopians. Ethiopian immigrants around the world are subjected to unspeakable abuse because there is no one to stand up for them. Woyanne and its Saudi financiers are tormenting, brutalizing, and humiliating us because we have made it possible for them to do so. It is because most of those in our society who are in the position of leadership — be it in politics, religion, business, academia, or media — have failed to provide leadership. There is a total breakdown of leadership in the Ethiopian society.
If the Ethiopian elite feels the shame and decides to start taking responsibility, there are some concrete actions that we can take to protect our people. See here for more details, but some of the basic and most effective actions we can take right away include:
  1. Boycott Woyanne cash cows such as Ethiopian Airlines. Use Emirates, Lufthansa and other airlines if you have to travel to Ethiopia. No rights! No flights! [read more]
  2.  Boycott Woyanne-owned businesses.
  3. Sabotage and disable Woyanne-controlled companies.
  4. Delay or do not pay taxes to Woyanne.
  5. Call for nationwide work slow down in government offices and departments.
  6. Confront, challenge, and socially ostracize Woyanne members and supporters every where.
Parallel to waging the above listed civil resistance activities, let’s come together to establish a transitional government in exile.
We do not necessarily need to engage in a shooting war with Woyanne to free Ethiopia from its death grip. If we are able to dry up Woyannes sources of income, it will not have the money to pay its spies and death squads. Its machinery of repression will collapse. If we are not able to withdraw support to Woyanne and drying up its sources of income, we all are condemning ourselves and our people to perpetual abuse, subjugation, slavery and national dishonor.
Whether Woyanne will continue to perpetrate its crimes against Ethiopians is up to us the citizens. Every Ethiopian who flies Ethiopian Airlines is contributing to the suffering of those young Ethiopian girls and boys in Saudi Arabia. Every Ethiopian who travels to Ethiopia to lease land from Woyanne is condemning his/her fellow Ethiopians to modern day slavery. Let’s take action. Let’s starve to the Woyanne beast to death.

TPLF the root cause of Poverty, Human Trafficking and National Indignity in the Horn of Africa – Orion Asmelash

TPLF the root cause of Poverty, Human Trafficking and

National Indignity in the Horn of Africa – Orion Asmelash

Eritrea Ethiopians

TPLF the root cause of Poverty, Human Trafficking and National Indignity in the Horn of Africa.

By Orion Asmelash

This is a Call to all Ethiopians and Eritreans to unite and work together against Ethiopian and African Enemy , the TPLF Junta

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools" Martin Luther King Jr.

For the past twenty years, the Horn of Africa is continuously bleeding because of TPLF. It is now time for Ethiopians and Eritreans to stand together in unison to get rid of the diabolic, barbaric and ethnocentric minority regime in Ethiopia. The horrible mistreatment, rapes and killings that we have witnessed in Saudi Arabia did not only affect the dignity of Ethiopians but the horn of Africa in general. When Ethiopia bleeds,Eritrea bleeds together. Moreover, the dignity of Ethiopia is the dignity of Africa.

In 1999, TPLF Leader Meles Zenawi addressing to his rubber-stamp parliament said "If we don't like the color of their eyes, we have the right to chase them away".

At that time many people thought that Meles Zenawi was referring only to Ethiopians of Eritrean Origin. However, as we will see the facts very shortly, the message was to Ethiopians in general. The current regime(TPLF) determines nationality not by origin, birth or naturalization but through a myopic lens of ethnicity and political affiliation. Thus, in the language of TPLF "not liking the color of your eyes" means you do not belong to them.

What makes the current situation even worse is not what happened outside but observing Ethiopians been beaten and bleeding in their own country because they protested what is happening in Saudi Arabia. We have seen regimes in the past killing innocent citizens but what we see today is quite shocking as it is attacking Ethiopian nationalism from its root. What is death than the deprivation of national dignity? It is sad to see that people are deprived their national dignity both inside and outside their country.

The regime's reaction in giving a deaf ear to the dreadful, horrible and shocking beatings, rapes and killings of innocent Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia echoes the very same language of what was hidden inside TPLF's heart from the get go . The message of TPLF to the thousands of crying people in Saudi Aarabia is clear "we can't help you because we don't like your eye color". TPLF's systematic attack on Ethiopian dignity and nationalism is not limited to those who are crying out in Saudi but also inside the country. There are plenty of people who were deported from their own land because of "their eye color". Here are the few facts among many:

  • In March 2013, more than 5000 Amharas deported from Benishangul Gumuz region by the TPLF
  • In March 2012, an estimated 78,000 Ethiopians has been deported from their homes in the Southern Nations of Benji Maji zone.

A regime that practices deportation and killings at home is not expected to defend those who are tormented in a foreign country.

There is no crime or mistreatment comparable to deportation from your own country of origin but this wasn't enough. TPLF Crimes surpasses deportation, it goes even further to the level of ethnic cleansing and genocide. TPLF is under sever scrutiny on the genocidal massacres against many of its peoples, including the Anuak, Ogadeni, Oromo, and Omo tribes. As some in the Genocide watch indicated, the facts gathered so far shows that TPLF have reached stage 7 genocidal massacre. Moreover, did we forget the 80,000 innocent soldiers who have lost their lives in Bademe? did they die for a good cause? what did they gain? what reason is given to their families for the loss of their valuable life? and who is responsible for these 80,000 lives who have lost their lives for no eason other than prolonging the regime's life ? there will come a time for TPLF leaders to answer all this but now enough is enough and we need to reclaim our dignity.

Ethiopians and Eritreans should stand together in this very sad moment of history and If we are united we will be strong. In unison we will liberate not only ourselves but the whole horn of Africa but if we are divided we will lose the battle and TPLF will continue to rule. Let us not forget TPLF wants us to stay divided but we are not each other's enemy, if one of us cry we both share that and if one bleeds the other bleeds too. We are connected to each other and we have a lot more common values than differences , so let us keep pressing until we see peace, freedom, liberty and prosperity in the region.

If we together throw a stone on TPLF, we can reclaim the lost dignity very shortly but if we are divided TPLF's brutality will intensify. TPLF cannot stand on its own, it is us who gave them the oxygen to breath.

This is an emergency call and we should respond without delay.

Hints of mobilization:

  • Demonstrate and campaign together
  • Organize a platform for Ethiopian and Eritrean political leaders to discuss issues together.
  • Medias such as ESAT, various radio stations and paltalk rooms should play an important role by bringing Ethiopian and Eritrean activists together
  • Use social networking sites such as facebook to create an atmosphere of togetherness
  • Organize huge musical concerts by inviting famous Ethiopian and Eritreans artists and use the funds collected for struggle against TPLF

" Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter"

Victory to the Masses!
