Generals are well off in Ethiopia

Ethiopian generals, who for the vast majority are Tigrayan, 

have a good many material advantages, such as free petrol 

(gasoline), an official car, free electricity and water, to 

name but a few. However, in some cases, these 

advantages can go even further, such as the possibility to 

import domestic equipment financed by the ministry for 

defence. They have also benefited from plots of land in the 

Bole neighbourhood in Addis Ababa and some of these 

generals were attributed official housing during the time 

when the late Meles Zenawi was Prime Minister. Some of 

them, like General Tadesse Gawna and Colonel Tsehaye 

Manjus, had no qualms about selling the plots of land they 

had been attributed. Others rent their official dwellings to 

third parties. One who does precisely this is General Gezae 

Abera who headed the army logistics department before 

going to live (asylum) in Sweden. Others are Generals 

Gebre Egziabher Mebratu, Teklai Ashebir and Fisseha 

Kidane, who receive monthly rents of between 30 and 

40,000 birrs (€1100 to €1500) each.

Ethiopia has registered double-digit economic growth for the last decade and says the growth rate will sustain. The horn of Africa nation hopes to join the rank of middle-income countries before 2025 through a series of development policies and strategies.

Ethiopia, Africa’s second most populous nation, with over 84 million, is currently Africa’s fourth-largest economy and East Africa’s largest.It is shame for them to look this documentary. 

Are they playing us like a cheap fiddle again?

For how long are we Ethiopians going to be oppressed and killed by the same governments that are supposed to protect us? For how long are we going to continue to die on the road as we try to escape from the injustice, misery, pain, death, lack of education and health care as we try to run towards other countries for a better and safer life? We must work together to bring the exodus of our young people to an end!

May God help us to better love, value and care for our Ethiopian brothers and sisters from every ethnic group throughout our beloved land. Together, may God help us build a bridge to a NEW ETHIOPIA where freedom, peace, justice, equality and respect is shared and enjoyed by all!!!

ግለሰብ እቃ እንዲያስገባና እንዲያስወጣ የፈቀደለት ሲሆን ዛሬ ጠዋትም እቃ 

ሲያስወጣና ሲያስገባ ታይቷል።


ይህ በዚህ እንዳለም በ13/2/06 የቤቱ አከራይና ተከራይ ነኝ ባይ 5 ኪሎ 

በሚገኘው መናገሻ ፍ/ቤት በታርጋ ቁጥር (ኮድ 4 02612) በሆነ የመንግሥት 

ፒክአፕ መኪና ሲመላለሱ የነበረ ሲሆን ይህም የህዝብን( የመንግሥትን) ንብረት 

ካድሬዎች «ህጋዊ ፓርቲዎችን ለማኮላሸትና ለግል ጥቅማቸው እንዴት እየተጠቀሙ

Customs authority alleges that Huawei avoided taxes

Government investigators say that Huawei Technologies illegally imported $13 million worth of telecom equipment into Ethiopia, adding to the number of cases involving allegedly corrupt activities by Chinese telecom companies in Africa.

ERCA has said it will confiscate the equipment and is likely to slap the company with tax avoidance charges. The equipment has been stuck at the country's port since last year.The equipment was allegedly imported into the country in the name of Ethio Telecom, a state-owned telecom company, without Ethio's knowledge, according to the Ethiopia Revenue & Customs Authority (ERCA). This was done to avoid paying taxes, ERCA said.

Ethio Telecom signed an $800 million telecom equipment deal with Huawei and another $800 million contract with China-based ZTE to expand its mobile phone network only three months ago. The equipment under investigation, however, was imported into the country toward the end of last year.

Questions are being asked regarding the timing of the imports. Industry are asking how Huawei Technologies knew it should start importing the equipment about nine months before the Ethio tender was actually awarded to the company.

Huawei declined to comment on the matter.

Huawei imported a total of 235 items including energy storage units, various types of batteries and microwave telecom communication products. Ethio has told ERCA that it never told Huawei Technologies to import any telecom equipment on its behalf.

The projects with Huawei and ZTE aim to introduce 4G broadband internet in the capital, Addis Ababa, and increase mobile phone and 3G Internet access across the country.

Less than 1 percent of Ethiopia's 85 million people have access to the Internet on mobile phones, according to the International Telecommunications Union. Ethio Telecom is the only operator in the East African country that is still under tight state control and the government wants it to expand its coverage to meet the growing demand in the communications market.

"China's growing influence in Africa is one that is now turning into a heap of unprecedented embarrassment due to underhanded methods being used to win tenders by Chinese companies," said Edith Mwale, telecom analyst at Africa Center for ICT Development.

In Zambia, the Anti-Corruption Commission is still investigating China's Star Software Technologies and ZTE over corruption allegations. The ACC is investigating how Star Software Technologies was irregularly awarded a $220 million digital migration tender, which has since been cancelled. ZTE is being investigated over the manner in which the company was awarded a $210 million circuit television (CCTV) camera contract, which has also been terminated.

Chinese telecom companies have also been facing numerous corruption allegations around Africa because of the manner in which telecom contracts are awarded to them.

In Algeria, Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria, Chinese companies have faced investigations over corruption related to telecom tenders. In Algeria, Huawei and ZTE are banned from bidding for telecom tenders for two years following convictions for corruption charges.

የፌደራል አቃቢ ህግ በቀድሞው የኢትዮጵያ ገቢዎችና ጉምሩክ ባለሥልጣን ዋ/ዳይሬክተር መላኩ ፋንታ መዝገብ ላይ ባቀረበው ክስ፣ በህወሀቱ አባል ምክትል ዳይሬክተሩር አቶ ገብረዋህድ ወ/ጊዮርጊስ መኖሪያ ቤት ውስጥ 2 ታጣፊና ባለእግር ክላሾች፣ 4 ማካሮቭ ሽጉጦች፣ 2 ኮልት ሽጉጦች፣እና አንድ ስታር ሽጉጥ በድምሩ 9 የጦር መሳሪያዎች መገኘቱን ጠቅሷል።በሌላው የህወሀት አባል በ24ኛው ተከሳሽ በቀድሞው የብሄራዊ መረጃና ደህንነት አገልግሎት አማካሪ በነበሩት በአቶ ወልደስላሴ /ሚካኤል ቤት ደግሞ 2 ባለሰደፍና ታጣፊ ጠመንጃዎች፣ አንድ ኡዚ ጠመንጃ፣ አንድ እስታር ሽጉጥ፣ አንድ የጭስ ቦንብ እና የተለያዩ ጥይቶችን ይዞ መገኘቱ ተገልጿል።

ግለሰቡ ከቀድሞው ጠ/ሚ አቶ መለስ ዜናዊ ባለቤት ወ/ሮ አዜብ መስፍን ጋር የጠበቀ ቁርኝት እንዳላቸው በተቃራኒው ደግሞ ከደህንነት ሚኒስትሩ ከአቶ ጌታቸው አሰፋ ጋር በተፈጠረው አለመግባባት ለእስር መዳረጋቸው በተለያዩ የመገናኛ ብዙሀን ሲዘግብ ቆይተዋል።

በተመሳሳይ ሴና ዋና ዳይሬክተሩ አቶ መላኩ ፋንታ ባለትዳር በማማገጥ ወንጀል አቃቢ ህግ ክስ እንደመሰረተባቸው ሰንደቅ ጋዜጣ ዘግባል። ዐቃቤ ህግ አቶ መላኩ የስራ ኃላፊነታቸውን በመጠቀም ለስራ ጉዳይ የመጣችን ሴት፤ ትዳሯን ፈታና በትዳር ውስጥ ያፈራቻቸውን ሦስት ልጆች በትና አብራቸው እንድትሆን አድርገዋል ሲል ስልጣንን ያለአግባብ የመጠቀም የሙስና ወንጀል ፈፅመዋል ብሎአል። ሰንደቅ አቃቢ ህግን ጠቅሶ እንደዘገበው ” ወ/ሮ መቅደስ ለማ የተባሉት እኚሁ ሴት የቀድሞ ባለቤታቸውን ንብረት የሆነውን ሳንክቸሪ ኢንተርናሽናል ኃ/የተወሰነ የግል ማህበር በ2001 ዓ.ም የስራ ግብር ለመክፈል ወደገቢዎችና ጉምሩክ ባለስልጣን ሲሄዱ 144 ሺህ ብር እንዲከፍሉ በመጠየቃቸውና በዚህም ምክንያት አቤቱታ ለማቅረብ ወደ ምስራቅ አዲስ አበባ ቅርንጫፍ ለአንድ አመት ከ4 ወር መጉላላታቸውን ለማስረዳትና መፍትሄ ለማግኘት ወ/ሮ መቅደስ ለማ የአቤቱታ ደብዳቤ ይዘው ወደተከሳሹ ዘንድ በቀረቡበት ወቅት የፍቅር ግንኙነት” ጀምረዋል። ተከሳሽ የነበረውን ስልጣን መከታ በማድረግ ባለጉዳዩዋ ቀደም ሲል ከከፈሉት ብር ውስጥ አንድ መቶ ሺህ ብር ተመላሽ እንዲሆን አድርጓል፤ በትዳር ውስጥ ያለችን ሴትም አማግጧል ሲል አቃቢ ህግ ክስ አሰምቷል።

ዐቃቤ ህግ ተከሳሽ “በጋብቻ ውስጥ ያለችን ሴት በመንግስት ተሽከርካሪና ነዳጅ ደብረ ሊባኖስ ገዳም ክብረ በዓል ላይ እንድትገኝ ከማድረጉም በላይ ቀኑ በውል ባልታወቀበት ዕለትም፤ በጋብቻ ውስጥ የነበረችው መቅደስ ለማን በግል ሾፌሩ አማካኝነት ወደ ባህርዳር ከተማ እንድትሄድ በማድረግ ሰመርላንድ ሆቴል ለአንድ ሳምንት አብረው እያደሩ እና በሾፌሩ አማካኝነት ከተማ ውስጥ እንድትዝናና ” አድርጋል ብሎአል።

አቃቢ ህግ ባቀረባቸው በርካታ የወንጀል ዝርዝሮች ውስጥ የሼክ ሙሀመድ ሁሴን አላሙዲንና በጄኔራል ክንፈ ዳኘው የሚመራው በመከላከያ ውስጥ የሚገኘው የብረታ ብረት ኮርፖሬሽን እቃዎች ያለቀረጥ እንዲገባላቸው ቢደረግም፣ ሌሎች ኩባንያዎች ሲከሰሱ ሁለቱ ድርጅቶች እና የኩባንያው መሪዎች አልተከሰሱም። አቃቢ ህግ እነዚህ ሁለት ግዙፍ ኩባንያዎች በሙስናው ውስጥ እንዳሉበት መረጃ ቢኖረውም ለመክሰስ ለምን ፈቃደኛ እንዳልሆነ አልታወቀም።

ወያኔንን ለማሸነፍ ሁሉም ኢትዮጵያዊ በአንድነት መነሳትና መተባበር

ከኔ በላይ ለአገሪቱ ተቆርቆሪ ወገን የለም ብሎ የሚያስብ ገዢ ፓርቲ እና ይህን ሀሳብ የመጨረሻ እውነት አድርጐ የሚቆጥር የካድሬ ጐርፍ፣ የማያባራ የምሁራን እና የዜጐች ስደት (ያውም በሬድዮ ጭምር በሚለፍፉ የውጭ አገር የሥራ ዕድል ማስታወቂያ በሚቀርብበት ሁኔታ ላይ እስክንደርስ፡፡)፣ በዘፈቀደ የተቀመጠ ግትር ፖሊሲ መቃብራቸውን መማስ፣ የታዋቂ ፖለቲከኞች እና የጋዜጠኞች እስር እና ወከባ እንዲሁም ተመሳሳይ ሕዝባዊ በደሎች፤ በተጨማሪም የመልካም አስተዳደር እጦት እና የሙስና መንሰራፋት የተባባሱት እና የተበራከቱት በሌላ በማንም አይደለም፡፡ ማነው ተው የሚለኝ? ሊጠይቀኝ የሚችል ከኔ ጋር የተጠጋጋ ኃይል ያለው አካል ከወዴት አለ? እኔን የሚመጥን ጉልበተኛ ማን አለ? ከኔ በላይ አዋቂ፣ ከኔ በላይ ብልህ፣ ከኔ በላይ አስተዳዳሪ ለዘበት በሚል መንግስት እንጂ፡፡

በኑሮ ውድነት፣ በአንድ ፓርቲ የበላይነት በዴሞክራሲ እና በብልሹ አስተዳደር እንዲሁም ቀጣይነት በሌላቸው እና ፖለቲካዊ ዓላማቸውን እስካልሳቱ ብቻ በሚጸድቁ ፖሊሲዎች የተሰላቸው ህዝብ፣ አነሰም በዛም የሚያውቃቸውን እና የሚያከብራቸውን ከመንግስት በተቃራኒው የቆሙትን ፓለቲከኞች እና ጋዜጠኞች በሽብርተኝት ታርጋ ከለላ ወደ እስር ቤት መወርወር፤ ግለሰቦቹን እና ደጋፊዎቻቸውን ብሎም የሰላማዊ ትግልን ወዳድ ህብረተሰብ ብቻ የሚጐዳ እና ተስፋ የሚያስቆርጥ ሊመስል ይችላል፡፡ ይህ የሚመስለው ግን ከላይ ከላይ ብቻ የታየ እና የታሰበ እንደሆነ ነው፡፡

ተቃዋሚ ፓርቲዎች ከአባላቶቻቸው እና አመራሮቻቸው ከመታሰራቸው እና ሌሎች አቅምን ከሚፈታተኑ ሁኔታዎች ጋር ተያይዞ አስቸጋሪ ጊዜን እያሳለፉ እንደሆነ ለሁሉም ግልጽ እውነታ ነው፡፡ እንደውም አሁን ያለው አዝማሚያ ሰላማዊ ትግሉን እና የዴሞክራሲያዊ ሽግግሩን ከመቼውም ጊዜ በላይ ተስፋ የሚያስቆርጥ ሁኔታ ውስጥ ከቶታል፡፡

በነዚህ በሁለት አካላት መሐል ደግሞ ሕዝቡ አለ፡፡ አሁንም ከድህነት፣ ከርሀብ እና ከስደት አዙሪት መውጣት የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ እንዳልቻለ የሚነግሩንን ብዙ ምሳሌዎች መጥቀስ የሚያቅተው ሰው እንደሌለ ተስፋ አደርጋለሁ፡፡ የሰሞኑ የመንግስት አቋም እና በኮሚኒስታዊ ስልት የተቃኙ እርምጃዎች (የእስር እና የመፈክሩን ጋጋታ ልብ ይሏል)፤ የኮሚኒስት ሥርዓት አራማጆችን ውድቀት እና ድቀት በራስ ላይ ከመጋበዝ እና በራስ ላይ ከማሟረት በተለየ መልኩ እንዳለየው መገመት ይቻላል፡፡

ወያኔ ከጊዜ ወደ ጊዜ ሥር እየሰደደ በመጣው ኃይሉ እና ባለው የፖለቲካ ሥልጣን ልዕልና በመጠቀም፤ በእያንዳንዱ እርምጃ እና ድርጊት ያለመጠየቅን ፀጋ ተጐናጽፏል፡፡ ዴሞክራሲያዊ አካሄድ ማየት፣ የፈለጉትን ሕግ በፓርላማ ማፅደቅ እና በዚህ ሕግ ሌሎችን ማሸማቀቅ እንዲሁም ማስጨነቅ፣ የሌሎችን ሀሳብ እንደ መናኛ ቆጥሮ የራስን ሀሳብ ብቻ መናገር እና ማስነገር (የሀገሪቱን ትላልቅ እና ኃይል ያላቸው የመገናኛ ብዙሀንን ለራስ ብቻ በማዋል የሌሎችን ሀሳብ በመገደብ፡፡)፣ ሌሎችን ባለድርሻ አካላት ሳያማክሩ አገሪቷን አደጋ ላይ ሊጥሉ የሚችሉ ፖለቲካዊ እና ሥነ ምጣኔያዊ ውሳኔዎችን ማስተላለፍ፤ ተው የሚለኝ ካለ፤ ይሞክረኝ! የሚል ሀላፊነት የጐደለው መልዕክት ማስተላለፍ እንጂ ሌላ ምን ሊሆን ይችላል? ስለዚህ ወያኔንን ለማሸነፍ ሁሉም ኢትዮጵያዊ በአንድነት መነሳትና መተባበር ይሻላል እላለሁ፡፡

The primary reason for Ethiopia’s abject poverty is the vampire political leadership that is sucking the life blood of the country. One of the signs that Ethiopian politicians are some of the most corrupt in the world is the kind of wealth they have amassed while on government salary. Their thievery comes out in the open when ever they become entangled in an internal power struggle. A few months ago, for example, the state media that is controlled by the ruling party exposed how two of the country’s top customs officials have stolen tens of millions of dollars. These two officials, Melaku Fanta, Director General of the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority with the rank of Minister, and his deputy, Gebrewahid Woldegiorgis, were close confidants of the late dictator Meles Zenawi and his wife Azeb Mesfin. If these two underlings of Meles Zenawi and Azeb Mesfin can steal tens of millions of dollars, as reported by ETV, one can imagine how much looting is going on by their higher-ups in the ruling party hierarchy. It is thus not surprising that more than half in this year’s Ethiopian Review list of the 10 richest Ethiopians are members of the ruling junta.

1. Mohammed Al Amoudi – Controls gold mines and massive tracts of fertile lands that were handed to him by Meles Zenawi, after their owners were kicked out and displaced. Estimated net worth: $10 billion.

2. Azeb Mesfin – Widow of the late dictator Meles Zenawi, commonly known as the “mother of corruption,” has ownership interests in many of the biggest companies in Ethiopia. Estimated net worth: $4 billion.

3. Berhane Gebrekiristos – The closest and most trust friend of Meles and Azeb; launders their loot out of the country. Estimated net worth: $2 billion.

4. Sebhat Nega – His fortune has been declining after he was kicked out of the TPLF politburo and the Endowment Fund for the Relief of Tigray (EFFORT) by Meles and Azeb; he is currently rebounding. Estimated net worth $2 billion.

5. Seyoum Mesfin – Current Ethiopian ambassador to China, former foreign affairs minister, used his chairmanship of Ethiopian Airlines and diplomatic status to smuggle illegal drugs between Africa and Asia; he is perhaps the biggest drug trader in Africa. Estimated net worth: $1.8 billion.

6. Samuel Tafesse – One of Azeb Mesfin’s business partners; their relationship has gone sour over the past couple of years, negatively affecting his construction business. Estimated net worth: $1.6 billion.

7. Abay Teshay – A senior member of the ruling party, has blind partnerships with many of the big companies in Ethiopia. Net worth: $1.5 billion.

8. Omer Ali Shifaw – Owner of Nejat International, whose wealth has been declining after TPLF started to compete with his coffee exporting business. Estimated net worth: $500 million.

9. Eyob Mamo – CEO and Chairman of Capitol Petroleum Group, Washington DC. Estimated worth: $500 million.

10. Suhura Ismail Khan – She has become the biggest khat trader in East Africa by establishing partnerships with TPLF officials and forging a close friendship with the late dictator Meles Zenawi. The TPLF-occupied Ethiopian embassies around the world are her main khat export routes to the Diaspora. Estimated net worth: $200
